Comdt. Liam Donnelly RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Commandant W. G. (Liam) Donnelly, late of Foxrock, County Dublin and formerly of Tuam, County Galway, on January 5th 2017, peacefully at St. Vincent’s Hospital. He will be very sadly missed by his beloved wife Eileen, children Aidan, Joan and Barbara, daughter-in-law Marie-Louise, sons-in-law Peter and Peter, his 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, sister, brother, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Liam was a member of the 22nd Cadet Class. Commissioned in 1951 he served in the Western Command during his early career, later moving to Dublin where he served as Officer Commanding, Command Training Depot (East) and was 2 i/c of the 27th Infantry Battalion during its formative year. He served in Defence Forces Headquarters as Personal Staff Officer to the Chief of Staff. Liam was Support Platoon Commander with A Company, 35th Battalion, during the Siege of Jadotville in the Congo in September 1961. On September 17th 2016 he was in Athlone when the Minister with responsibility for Defence presented A Company with a Unit Citation.

Reposing at Rom Massey & Sons Funeral Home, Cranford Centre, Stillorgan Road (opposite Belfield Flyover – phone 01 283 7006) on Saturday 7th January from 2pm until 3.30pm prior to removal to the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Foxrock arriving at 4.30pm. Funeral Mass on Monday at 12 noon followed by burial at Dean’s Grange Cemetery. Family flowers only, please. Comdt. Brendan Cassidy RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Commandant Brendan Oran Cassidy of Churchtown, Dublin and formerly of Granard, County Longford, on 9th December 2016. Brendan died peacefully in the care of his family and carers at home. Loving husband of the late Rosanna and beloved father of Anne, Corona, Conal and Brendan. Devoted grandfather to Gavin, Conor, Andrew, Karen, Rosanna, Keelin, Eoghan, Rían, Eavan, Dáire and Líadain. He will be greatly missed by his family, sons-in-law Stephen and David, daughters-in-law Pamela and Wendy, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Many thanks to the Harold’s Cross, Community Palliative Care Team.

Reposing at home on Sunday from 4 pm to 7 pm. Removal on Monday morning to the Church of the Good Shepherd, Nutgrove Avenue, Churchtown, Dublin 14, arriving for 11.30 am Funeral Mass, followed by burial in Bohernabreena Cemetery.

Comdt. John Barry RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Commandant John Barry of Blackrock, Dublin and late of Limerick. On October 1st 2016, peacefully, after an illness borne bravely in the tender care of the staff of St Vincent’s Hospital. Beloved husband of Nicola, loving father of Eoghan, Sarah and Hugh. Sadly missed by his wife, children, mother Mary, brothers Gerard, Niall, Colm and Cathal, sister Mairéad, mother-in-law Rita, extended family, colleagues and wide circle of friends.

Reposing tomorrow, Monday, in Quinn’s of Glasthule from 5pm to 7pm. Removal on Tuesday to The Church of the Assumption, Booterstown, arriving at 11.20am for 11.30am Funeral Mass, followed by cremation in Mount Jerome Crematorium. Family flowers only please.

Comdt. Mick O’Byrne RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Commandant Michael (Mick) O’Byrne, of Whitehall Road, Terenure, Dublin and late of Greenane, Co. Wicklow on Tuesday, 9th August 2016. Peacefully, after a long debilitating illness in the wonderful care of Lisheen Nursing Home, Rathcoole. Beloved husband of Gerardine and adored father of Patrick, Tara, Michael and Deirdre. Very sadly missed by his loving family, daughter-in-law Elfrida, sons-in-law John and Mark, grandchildren Miko, Matthew and Aoife, sisters Joan Cassidy and Bernadette Cornish, brothers Sylvester, Fr Paddy, Sean, Kevin, Eugene and Gerard, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Predeceased by his brother Peter.

Prayers at 4.30 pm at Lisheen Nursing Home, Rathcoole on Friday afternoon (12 August) prior to his removal to the Church of the Holy Spirit, Kimmage Manor arriving at 6 pm. Funeral on Saturday morning (13 August) after 11.30 am Mass to Greenane Cemetery, Co. Wicklow arriving at approximately 2.30 pm.

Comdt. Dave Brown RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Commandant David (Dave) Michael Brown, Tully Vale, Kildare Town, Kildare, on Tuesday, 26th July 2016. Deeply regretted by his loving wife Mary, daughter Laura, son Alex, daughter-in-law Hai-Ni, mother, brothers, extended family and friends.

Removal on Thursday at 10.45 to St. Brigid’s Parish Church, Kildare arriving for Mass at 11 o’clock. Burial afterwards in St. Conleth’s Cemetery, Kildare. No flowers please. Comdt. Dave Hyland RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Commandant Dave Hyland, O’Briensbridge, County Clare, on 20th July 2016, after a brave battle with cancer. He will be sorely missed by his wife Anne, daughter Caragh, sons Cian and Davet, daughter-in-law Caoimh, Cian’s fiancée Aoife, his brother Billy and sister Judy, family and friends.

Comdt. Liam O’Coinne RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Commandant Liam O’Coinne, Taylors Hill, Galway City and formerly of Garracloon, Ballina, Co. Mayo; unexpectedly, on Friday, 15th July 2016. Loving husband of Anna and much loved father of Gillian and Susan. Comdt. Billy O’Hanlon RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Commandant William (Billy) O’Hanlon, Dunlavin, County Wicklow and formerly of Ballymore Eustace, County Kildare, on Tuesday, 19th April 2016. Suddenly at home. Loving son of Sarah and adored father of David and Sarah. Will be lovingly remembered by Maeve, his daughter-in-law Jane and grandchildren Tom, Katie, Alice and Harry. Billy was a member of the 37th Cadet Class and the Supply & Transport Corps and will be deeply missed by his wide circle of friends and former colleagues.

Arriving at the Church of The Immaculate Conception, Ballymore Eustace, Friday 22nd April for 11am funeral Mass, followed by interment in St Mary’s Cemetery, Ballymore.

On 28th April 2018, peacefully, surrounded by his family, in the loving care of the staff at St. John’s Community Hospital, Sligo. Dearly loved husband of Kay (nee Dobbyn) and father of Trina Byrne (Galway), Eamonn (Letterkenny), David (Westport), Kevin (Grange, County Sligo), Joey (Quin, County Clare), Jimmy (Drumfin, County Sligo), Denise (Galway), Marita Tracey (Sligo) and brother of Nuala Moran (Westport), Eamonn (Leeds), Kevin (Rathfarnham) and the late Joseph (England). Comdt. Colm Browne DSM RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its mambers of the death of Commandant Colm Browne DSM, “Anaverna”, Whitecross, Julianstown, County and formerly of Omeath, County Louth. On April 28th 2018, in his 96th year, peacefully, at home surrounded by his loving family. Much loved husband of Leontia (nee Courtney) and the late Mary (nee Bell). Beloved father of Helen (Cremin), Ann ( Lyons), Colm, and Niamh (Mitchell), brother of Padraig and the late Maire and adored grandfather and great-grandfather. Sadly missed by a wide circle of family and friends.

Colm served in the Western and Eastern Commands. He was awarded a DSM for his ” leadership and devotion to duty” when serving with the 35 Battalion in the Congo in 1961. He was an officer of the Supply & Transport Corps and in the early 70s was Mess President of DFHQ Officers Mess, McKee Barracks. A noted footballer, he won an All-Ireland Minor title with Louth in 1940 and later played senior football with Galway.

Reposing at his home on Monday (April 30th) from 5pm to 8pm. Removal to St. Mary’s Church, Julianstown, for funeral Mass at 11am on Tuesday (May 1st) followed by burial in Moorechurch Cemetery. Family flowers only.
