Col. Barney Donagh RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death, on 10th May 2020, of Colonel Bernard (Barney) Donagh of Standhouse Road, Newbridge, County Kildare and formerly of Kells, County Meath. Darling husband and friend of Nora, loving and proud dad of Caitriona, Commandant Brian (71 Cadet Class), Sinead, and Orlaith. Adored grandad of Brion, Ciara, Siofra, Conor, Caolan, Juno and Axl. Deeply missed by his brother Michael and sisters Anne, Margaret and Catherine, brothers in law Brian, Dan and Jim, sisters in law Denise and Mary, sons-in-law Petr and Alan, daughter in law Aisling, nieces, nephews, army colleagues, particularly 42 Cadet Class, friends and neighbours.

Barney Donagh was born in Oct 1949, joined the Defence Forces as a member of 42 Cadet Class in October 1967 and was commissioned in September 1969. He saw service in the Southern Command, The Curragh, 2 Eastern Brigade and Defence Forces Headquarters, where he was Director of Defence Forces Training. Barney commanded 86 Infantry Battalion, United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon from November 1999 to April 2000 and, in Vienna, was the Military Adviser of the Irish Mission to the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe.

In line with HSE and government advice, the Funeral Mass at 11 o’clock on Wednesday (13th May) in Cill Mhuire Church, Ballymany, Newbridge will be private with a private burial afterwards in Saint Conleth’s Cemetery, Newbridge.
