Lt. Col. Jim Roche RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Lieutenant Colonel James (Jim) Roche, Silliot Hill, Kildare Town, Kildare.

Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away suddenly on Saturday, 10th June, doing what he loved – gardening! Father of the late John. Survived by his loving wife Ita, sons Shane, Gavin and Niall, grandchildren Ben, Tara, Sophia and Clodagh, his brothers, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, Aunt Alice, relatives and friends.

May his gentle soul rest in peace

Reposing at his residence on Wednesday, 14th June, from 4 pm until 8 pm. Removal on Thursday morning at 10.15 am to arrive at St. Brigid’s Parish Church, Kildare Town, for Mass at 11 am, followed by burial in St. Conleth’s Cemetery, Kildare Town. Family flowers only, please.

Lt. Col. Bill O’Riain RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death, on 13th March 2016, of Lieutenant Colonel Bill O’Riain, Rathfarnham, Dublin and late of Ballyhooly, Co Cork. Peacefully, after an illness bravely borne, surrounded by his family, in the loving care of the staff at Saint Vincent’s Private Hospital. Much loved husband of Kathleen (nee Gillick) and dear father of Donal, Liam, John and Mark. Sadly missed by his loving wife, sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, daughters-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, niece, everyone at Glanworth GAA and a large circle of friends. Bill was a member of the 30th Cadet Class and had a long association with the Eastern Command – as a Captain in the 2 Infantry Battalion and later as QM Eastern Command. A noted footballer with his native Cork and, when a Cadet, a member of the Military College team that won the Kildare Senior Football Championship sixty years ago this year.

Funeral Mass on Wednesday, March 16th, at 11.30am at The Church of the Annunciation, Rathfarnham, followed by Cremation at Mount Jerome. Donations in lieu of flowers to the Irish Cancer Society.

Lt. Col. Pat McKevitt RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Lieutenant Colonel Patrick (Pat) McKevitt of Killiney, County Dublin and formerly of Carlingford, County Louth. On Tuesday, 11th April 2017, peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Ann, and cherished father of Una, Nessa, Maeve and Aine.

Pat will be sadly missed and remembered with love by his wife, daughters, granddaughter Ella, sisters, brother, extended family, neighbours and friends.

May he rest in peace

Reposing at his residence in Killiney on this Wednesday from 4.00pm and on Thursday at his home in Newry Street, Carlingford, from 6.00pm. Removal on Friday morning at 11.30am to St. Michael’s Church, Carlingford, arriving for Funeral Liturgy at 12.00 noon. Burial afterwards in St. Michael’s Cemetery. Family flowers only, please.

Lt. Col. Jack O’Donoghue RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Lieutenant Colonel John P. (Jack) O’Donoghue of Stillorgan, Co. Dublin, and formerly of Athlone and Cahirsiveen. Peacefully, on May 4th, in the wonderful care of The Blackrock Hospice. Beloved husband of Margaret, who died recently on April 18th, and loving father of Maria, Clíodhna, Donncha, Dairíne, Áine, John and Mairéad. Sadly missed by his grieving family, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, his thirteen treasured grandchildren, sisters Treasa, Eileen and Bernadette, brothers Fr Jim and Martin, extended family, relatives and friends.

Lt. Col. John Costelloe RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Lieutenant Colonel John (Johnny) Costelloe of Castleknock, Dublin and formerly of Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny. On September 25th, 2016, peacefully, in the loving care of the staff at Mount Hybla Nursing Home. Beloved husband of Jill and dear father of Enda, Dermot, Eimear, Cormac and Niamh and a devoted grandfather of Emma, Lucy, Tom, Meg, Joe, Cliona, Aoibhín, Derry, Laoise, Charlie, India and Chloe. Deeply regretted by his loving wife, sons, daughters, grandchildren, son-in-law, daughters-in-law, brother Jim, sister Anne (Thurn), nieces, nephews, relatives, former colleagues from the Defence Forces and a wide circle of friends.

Lt. Col. Coleman Goggin RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Lieutenant Colonel Coleman Goggin, on Thursday, 15 September 2016. The Dingle native followed the footsteps of his brother Paddy, who died recently, into the Cadet School in 1954 and was a member of the 29th Cadet Class. Coleman was the first officer to be appointed as Defence Forces Psychologist, an appointment he held with great distinction for over thirty years.

DFHQ Officers Mess in McKee Barracks was his home for over three decades and his strong link to the Mess continued in retirement with his active membership of McKee Officers Club. He will be sadly missed and will be remembered with great affection by his former comrades, Club Members and many friends.

It is understood that in keeping with his wishes Coleman’s body has been donated to medical science and a Remembrance Service will be held, in McKee Barracks, on a date to be advised.

Lt. Col. Danny Flood RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Lieutenant Colonel Donald A. (Danny) Flood, Derdimus, Tennypark, Kilkenny. On 18th August 2016, surrounded by his loving family and in the loving care of the management and staff of Tinnypark Nursing Home. Beloved husband of the late Noeline and loving father of Gearóid, Deirdre, Seán, Frank, Danny and the late Ciarán. Sadly missed by his family, brother Tom, daughters-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, grandchildren, great granddaughter, extended family and friends. A member of the 27th Cadet Class and a formidable inter county footballer, he was part of the Kildare full back line over a ten-year period. He served in the southern sector of the old Eastern Command area during his career and was Officer Commanding 61 Infantry Battalion UNIFIL. Danny was a former Vice President of the Association of Retired Commissioned Officers.

Reposing at his home on Saturday from 1 pm to 5 pm with house private thereafter. Removal on Sunday to St. Patrick’s Church, Kilkenny, arriving for Funeral Mass at 12.30 pm. Interment afterwards in Foulkstown Cemetery.

Lt. Col. Pat McMahon RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Lieutenant Colonel Patrick (Pat) McMahon of Malahide, County Dublin and formerly of Dowdallshill, Dundalk, Co. Louth. On 8th November 2016, peacefully, surrounded by his loving family and in the wonderful care of the staff of Talbot Lodge Nursing Home. Loving husband of the late Anne. Pat will be very sadly missed by his loving children Joan, Orla, Dara, Jim and Aisling, daughter-in-law Catraoine, son-in-law Alun, grandchildren Sarah, Cara, Katie and Grace, sisters Maureen and Freda, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, extended family and wide circle of friends. Pat was a member of the 29th Cadet Class and served in the Eastern Command area and in Defence Forces Headquarters. He commanded 29 Infantry Battalion at home and also commanded 64 Infantry Battalion, UNIFIL. A noted footballer, he was a member of the Cadet School Team that won the Kildare Senior Football Championship in 1956.

May he Rest in Peace.

Reposing on Thursday afternoon in Stafford’s Funeral Home, Strand Road, Portmarnock from 5pm until 7pm. Removal on Friday morning to St. Sylvester’s Church, Malahide arriving for 11am. Lt. Col. Tony Kelly RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Lieutenant Colonel Patrick A. (Tony) Kelly, late of Calverstown, County Kildare and of the Corps of Engineers, McKee Barracks, Dublin. On 3rd June 2015 (peacefully) after a short illness. Beloved husband of Carmel. Predeceased by his father Paddy. Sadly missed by his loving family, his mother Maeve, sisters Helen, Bernadette, Muriel, Ruth and Rachel, brothers David and Brian, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, colleagues in the Defence Forces and friends.

Lt. Col. Brendan McGuire RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Lieutenant Colonel Brendan McGuire of Moyola Park, Newcastle, County Galway and Ballina, County Mayo. On Friday, 27th February 2015. Former Commanding Officer of An Céad Cath, Dun Uí Mhaoiliosa, Renmore, Galway. Dearly beloved husband of Mary (nee Keane) and much loved father of Deirdre, Rory, Barry and Conor. Very sadly missed by his wife, sons and daughter, brothers Padraic and Rory, sisters Máirín, Gráinne, Brídín and Noilín, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces, extended family and friends.

Reposing at the O’Flaherty Funeral Parlour, Munster Avenue, Galway on Monday evening, 2nd March from 5 p.m. with Removal at 7 p.m. to the Cathedral.
