ARCOIreland regrets to inform its members of the death of Commander Noel Goulding of Carrigaline, County Cork. On December 18th, 2018 peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at Marymount Hospice. Beloved husband of Patsy (née McEvoy) and dear father of Michael, Chris and Emma. Sadly missed by his loving family, Michael’s wife Aisling, Chris’s partner Louise and her son Cillian, Emma’s partner John, brothers Patrick and Anthony, grandchildren Grace, Aoife, Dara, Jack and Paul, sisters-in-law Marie and Ann, brother-in-law Jim, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Noel originally trained as a merchant navy officer before joining the Naval Service as a Naval Lieutenant in 1973. An extremely professional and knowledgeable seaman he was an outstanding shipmate, who displayed exceptional qualities of loyalty, leadership, good humour and common sense.
He served on coastal minesweepers before being appointed Executive Officer of L.E. Deirdre and went on to command L.E. Banba in the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He subsequently commanded L.E. Grainne, L.E. Deirdre and L.E. Emer.
During 1997/1998 he was Assistant Chief Military Press Information Officer, 37 Irish Component, UNIFIL. Promoted to Commander on his return from Lebanon he was appointed Staff Officer Operations, Naval Headquarters. From 2000 he was Officer in Charge of Naval Shore Operations until his retirement in November 2002.
Reposing at Forde’s Funeral Home, Old Waterpark, Carrigaline. Removal on Wednesday 19th at 8.00pm to the Church of Our Lady and St. John, Carrigaline. Requiem Mass on Thursday 20th at 11.30am. Funeral afterwards to St. John’s Cemetery, Ballinrea. House private, please.
