Lt. Col. Pat McMahon RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Lieutenant Colonel Patrick (Pat) McMahon of Malahide, County Dublin and formerly of Dowdallshill, Dundalk, Co. Louth. On 8th November 2016, peacefully, surrounded by his loving family and in the wonderful care of the staff of Talbot Lodge Nursing Home. Loving husband of the late Anne. Pat will be very sadly missed by his loving children Joan, Orla, Dara, Jim and Aisling, daughter-in-law Catraoine, son-in-law Alun, grandchildren Sarah, Cara, Katie and Grace, sisters Maureen and Freda, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, extended family and wide circle of friends. Pat was a member of the 29th Cadet Class and served in the Eastern Command area and in Defence Forces Headquarters. He commanded 29 Infantry Battalion at home and also commanded 64 Infantry Battalion, UNIFIL. A noted footballer, he was a member of the Cadet School Team that won the Kildare Senior Football Championship in 1956.

Reposing on Thursday afternoon in Stafford’s Funeral Home, Strand Road, Portmarnock from 5pm until 7pm. Removal on Friday morning to St. Sylvester’s Church, Malahide arriving for 11am. Funeral Mass followed by cremation in Dardistown Crematorium. Family flowers only please. Donations, if desired, to the Fr. Peter McVerry Trust.

Lt. Cmdr. Donal O’Callaghan RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Lieutenant Commander Donal O’Callaghan of Carrigaline and formerly of Mallow, County Cork. On October 14th 2016, suddenly, at the Mater Hospital, Dublin. Donal became ill on his way to Heuston Station, having just attended the ARCO AGM in McKee Barracks. He was appointed Director of Seafood Safety at the Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority when he retired from the Navel Service. Donal was the beloved husband of Mary and loving father of Maria and Michael, adoring grandfather of Daniel, dear brother of Pat, Niall, Anna and the late Tony. Sadly missed by his loving family, Maria’s partner David, relatives, neighbours, colleagues and friends.

Reposing at home on Thursday, 20th October, from 12.00noon until 4.00pm followed by reception into the Church of Our Lady, Star of the Sea, Haulbowline at 6.30pm and lying in repose until 8.30pm. Requiem Mass on Friday, 21st October, at 1.30pm followed by Cremation at The Island Crematorium, Ringaskiddy.

No flowers please, donations if desired to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution or to the Defence Forces Benevolent Fund.

Col. Frank Lawless RIP

ARCO extends sympathy to its serving colleagues and to the family of Colonel Frank Lawless, Baroda Court, Newbridge, the Director of Defence Forces Training, who died peacefully at St. James’s Hospital on 7th October 2016. He was the son of the late Sheila and Colonel Frank Senior. He is sadly missed by his loving wife Noreen, children Ciara, Daniel and Anna, his sisters Eithne, Grainne, Finola and Niamh, brothers-in-law, mother-in-law Moll, father-in-law Pat (Scanlon), nephews and nieces, extended family, relatives and friends.

Comdt. John Barry RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Commandant John Barry of Blackrock, Dublin and late of Limerick. On October 1st 2016, peacefully, after an illness borne bravely in the tender care of the staff of St Vincent’s Hospital. Beloved husband of Nicola, loving father of Eoghan, Sarah and Hugh. Sadly missed by his wife, children, mother Mary, brothers Gerard, Niall, Colm and Cathal, sister Mairéad, mother-in-law Rita, extended family, colleagues and wide circle of friends.

Reposing tomorrow, Monday, in Quinn’s of Glasthule from 5pm to 7pm. Removal on Tuesday to The Church of the Assumption, Booterstown, arriving at 11.20am for 11.30am Funeral Mass, followed by cremation in Mount Jerome Crematorium. Family flowers only please.

Lt. Col. John Costelloe RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Lieutenant Colonel John (Johnny) Costelloe of Castleknock, Dublin and formerly of Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny. On September 25th, 2016, peacefully, in the loving care of the staff at Mount Hybla Nursing Home. Beloved husband of Jill and dear father of Enda, Dermot, Eimear, Cormac and Niamh and a devoted grandfather of Emma, Lucy, Tom, Meg, Joe, Cliona, Aoibhín, Derry, Laoise, Charlie, India and Chloe. Deeply regretted by his loving wife, sons, daughters, grandchildren, son-in-law, daughters-in-law, brother Jim, sister Anne (Thurn), nieces, nephews, relatives, former colleagues from the Defence Forces and a wide circle of friends.

Lt. Col. Coleman Goggin RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Lieutenant Colonel Coleman Goggin, on Thursday, 15 September 2016. The Dingle native followed the footsteps of his brother Paddy, who died recently, into the Cadet School in 1954 and was a member of the 29th Cadet Class. Coleman was the first officer to be appointed as Defence Forces Psychologist, an appointment he held with great distinction for over thirty years.

DFHQ Officers Mess in McKee Barracks was his home for over three decades and his strong link to the Mess continued in retirement with his active membership of McKee Officers Club. He will be sadly missed and will be remembered with great affection by his former comrades, Club Members and many friends.

It is understood that in keeping with his wishes Coleman’s body has been donated to medical science and a Remembrance Service will be held, in McKee Barracks, on a date to be advised.

Lieutenant Colonel Paul Brownen, Clontarf and Palm Harbour, Florida, on 4th September 2016 after an illness borne with courage and good humour. Cherished husband of Pauline, adored and loving father of John and Sarah. Paul will be sadly missed by his loving wife, son, daughter, brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, Army Comrades, neighbours and his many friends, especially those in Clontarf GAA Club.

Removal on Wednesday morning to St. Gabriel’s Church, Dollymount arriving at 11.50 o’clock for 12 noon Requiem Mass. Funeral thereafter to Fingal Cemetery. House Private. Family flowers only please. Donations if desired to St. Francis Hospice, Raheny.

Major General Kevin Duffy, Dysart Grove, Youghal, Cork and Monkstown, Dublin, on 4th September 2016, peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at the Bons Secours hospital Cork. Beloved husband of the late Alice (nee O Neill) and loving dad of Kieran, Brian, Aine and Catherine. Sadly missed by his loving family, his sister Hilda (Conroy), grandchildren Alan, Maureen, Juliette, and Oran, daughters in law, sons in law, brothers in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Lt. Col. Danny Flood RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Lieutenant Colonel Donald A. (Danny) Flood, Derdimus, Tennypark, Kilkenny. On 18th August 2016, surrounded by his loving family and in the loving care of the management and staff of Tinnypark Nursing Home. Beloved husband of the late Noeline and loving father of Gearóid, Deirdre, Seán, Frank, Danny and the late Ciarán. Sadly missed by his family, brother Tom, daughters-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, grandchildren, great granddaughter, extended family and friends. A member of the 27th Cadet Class and a formidable inter county footballer, he was part of the Kildare full back line over a ten-year period. He served in the southern sector of the old Eastern Command area during his career and was Officer Commanding 61 Infantry Battalion UNIFIL. Danny was a former Vice President of the Association of Retired Commissioned Officers.

Reposing at his home on Saturday from 1 pm to 5 pm with house private thereafter. Removal on Sunday to St. Patrick’s Church, Kilkenny, arriving for Funeral Mass at 12.30 pm. Interment afterwards in Foulkstown Cemetery.

Maj. Gen. Charles McGuinn RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Major General Charles J. McGuinn, Old Leighlin Road, Leighlinbridge, Carlow. Suddenly and peacefully on Friday, 12th August 2016. Predeceased by his beloved daughter Hilary, loving husband of Ella and much loved father to Berna & Elaine. Deeply regretted by his loving sons-in-law Len, David & Simon, precious grand-children Mary-Kate, Patrick, Hannah & Caroline Roche, Charles & Isobel Lorigan, Conor, Eleanor & Aidan Akester, sisters-in-law, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Comdt. Mick O’Byrne RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Commandant Michael (Mick) O’Byrne, of Whitehall Road, Terenure, Dublin and late of Greenane, Co. Wicklow on Tuesday, 9th August 2016. Peacefully, after a long debilitating illness in the wonderful care of Lisheen Nursing Home, Rathcoole. Beloved husband of Gerardine and adored father of Patrick, Tara, Michael and Deirdre. Very sadly missed by his loving family, daughter-in-law Elfrida, sons-in-law John and Mark, grandchildren Miko, Matthew and Aoife, sisters Joan Cassidy and Bernadette Cornish, brothers Sylvester, Fr Paddy, Sean, Kevin, Eugene and Gerard, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Predeceased by his brother Peter.

Prayers at 4.30 pm at Lisheen Nursing Home, Rathcoole on Friday afternoon (12 August) prior to his removal to the Church of the Holy Spirit, Kimmage Manor arriving at 6 pm. Funeral on Saturday morning (13 August) after 11.30 am Mass to Greenane Cemetery, Co. Wicklow arriving at approximately 2.30 pm.
