Brig. Gen. Dave Taylor RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Brigadier General David (Dave) Taylor of Galway. On 28th April 2016, peacefully, surrounded by his family and the staff of Maryfield Nursing Home. Brother of the late Michael. Sadly missed by his wife Margaret, daughter Orla, sons Conal and Neil, sisters Helen, Rhona, Jennifer and Marna, brothers-in-law, son-in-law Matthias, daughters-in-law Georgina and Fiona, grandchildren, relatives and friends.

Reposing at the O’ Flaherty Funeral Parlour, Munster Avenue, Galway on Friday, 29th April from 5 pm to 8 pm. Requiem Mass at 12 noon on Saturday, 30th April in St. Ignatius Church, Sea Road, Galway. Funeral after Mass to Rahoon Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations if desired to Western Alzheimers.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Commandant Victor Laing, formerly officer in charge of Military Archives, who was conferred with the Degree, Honoris Causa, of Doctor of Laws by University College Dublin on Monday, 25 April 2016. The ceremony was part of UCD’s celebration of the Decade of Centenaries. Those who were also conferred with honorary degrees on this special occasion were: Ms Catriona Crowe, Professor Roy Foster, Mr Justice Gerard Hogan, Professor Joe Lee and Professor Michael Mann.

On the following day Uachtarán na hÉireann, Dr Michael D. Higgins, opened the newly refurbished Military Archives facility at Cathal Brugha Barracks. This represents one of the seven Government flagship capital projects being developed for the 1916 centenary. The project is a tribute to the dedication of Victor Laing, the late Commandant Peter Young and the staff and volunteers who have worked in Military Archives over the years.

Comdt. Billy O’Hanlon RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Commandant William (Billy) O’Hanlon, Dunlavin, County Wicklow and formerly of Ballymore Eustace, County Kildare, on Tuesday, 19th April 2016. Suddenly at home. Loving son of Sarah and adored father of David and Sarah. Will be lovingly remembered by Maeve, his daughter-in-law Jane and grandchildren Tom, Katie, Alice and Harry. Billy was a member of the 37th Cadet Class and the Supply & Transport Corps and will be deeply missed by his wide circle of friends and former colleagues.

Rest in Peace.

Arriving at the Church of The Immaculate Conception, Ballymore Eustace, Friday 22nd April for 11am funeral Mass, followed by interment in St Mary’s Cemetery, Ballymore.

Brig. Gen. Jerry O’Connor RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Brigadier General Jeremiah Brendan (Jerry) O’Connor, former GOC Air Corps, of Templeogue, Dublin and late of Drumlusk, Sneem, Co. Kerry. On 13 April 2016, peacefully in Tallaght Hospital. Beloved husband of the late Bridget (Dotie), much loved father of Helen, Pat and Diarmuid and adored grandfather of Brendan, Alexandra and Aidan. Very sadly missed by his loving family, daughter-in-law Nancy, Peter and Michael, brother Michael and his wife Maureen (California), nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, Air Corps colleagues, neighbours, relatives and friends. Predeceased by his sisters Joan, Maria and Eileen and brothers Aodh, Denis and David.

Rest in Peace

Reposing at Fanagans Funeral Home, Lower Kimmage Road on Friday (15 April) and Saturday (16 April) and in his residence on Sunday evening (17 April) from 4pm to 7pm. Private removal from his home on Monday morning (18 April) to the Church of St Pius X, Templeogue for Funeral Mass at 11am and afterwards to Bohernabreena Cemetery.
